Earlier this year, there has been a good addition in the wide range of Acer Laptops. It is Acer Aspire 5740. This one is really good and within the budget. Recently I bought this for my friend and find it very economical and it has all the basic features that we hunt for. This is one big lappy. It has a wide screen 15.6 inches and full keypad including a dedicated number pad. Not many of the notebooks of such size can afford to provide this.

There are other versions of the same series including the graphics card. But you have to add few extra bucks for that. Overall, this model is best for a budget conscious buyer and it is the best deal among all other laptops of the same range. It is cheap and efficient.. and perfectly meets the requirements of buyer. Be it a student, designer or a professional.

The only two cons of this laptop is its size and a weak but satisfying battery life. But, having a big display unit obviously increases the size and to some extent the battery life also. Besides the cons, it has a very good build, improved performance on graphics and not to forget the full sized keypad.

Review :

The Acer Aspire 5740 has 15.6 inch LED-backlit screen with aspect ratio of 16:9 which display multimedia content very well. A 2-megapixel webcam on the top of the screen is perfect for video chats and conferencing. The Dedicated numpad makes the keypad wide but it is good for typing and smooth to type on. Talking about the touchpad, it is big and easy to use and move your fingers on it. There’s a lock-key provided to lock the the touchpad if you want to use any other device such as usb mouse. One dedicated button to launch recently used program.

The only two shortcomings are big size and less battery backup. But if you want to have a wide screen and a long battery life…certainly not possible. You have to compromise with it. But, 3.5-4 hours of battery life is enough. Isn’t it ? If you want to buy other laptops having same features, you have to loose your pocket a bit. Dell, Hcl and Lenovo have got some good models, but will cost you around 40k. So, Acer Aspire 5740 should be your choice, if you are looking for a smart, high performance and cheap notebook. It is best for the forgiving customer. The features and performance are sufficient.
